Responsibilities
CJMW has been a regional leader in Senior Living Design for 45 years, working primarily with not-for-profit clients. CJMW Architecture is seeking a Senior Architect + Market Director to support the strong team we have to help continue to grow this market sector. We are looking for a leader with a combination of leadership skills, design ability, business development and client relations, who brings a proven track record and passion for building upon a regional+ national portfolio, managing design teams, maintaining project profitability, and mentoring and developing staff.
The person who fills this position has the potential to become a shareholder in the firm, and will have an opportunity to work as part of our leadership team to grow the firm’s practice and capitalize its potential.
The primary responsibility of this position is to build on the firm’s existing portfolio in this sector to grow the practice both in service offerings and in geographical area. The firm has a strong Interior Design practice, and the ability to work integrally with the Interior Design Studio and Director to develop joint strategies will be key to this position. The Senior Architect/Market Director will be responsible for building upon the strategic vision for this sector, creating/ bringing new client relationships and maintaining current ones, developing and implementing annual business development plans, and mentoring design teams in best practices for this industry.
The Director will work in conjunction with Principals and other market leaders within the firm to support the goals of the firm as a whole. S/he will lead through demonstrating skills in staff development, client relations, business development, and project design and delivery, helping to create and maintain an environment of respect and trust among staff and leaders.
Qualifications
- A degree in Architecture with active registration (NCARB preferred).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to thrive in an entrepreneurial environment, collaborative, flexible and yet structed to organize, project plans, processes, teams, and proposal + interview responses.
- Demonstrated ability to successfully manage client expectations, team communication, and consultant coordination.
- Forward-looking, keeping a current pulse on the future of senior living.
- Ability to oversee several projects and firm initiatives simultaneously maintaining high quality projects and firm profitably.
- Strong PM experience on multiple senior living projects for not-for-profit and high-end for-profit clients (including IL, SNF, AL, etc.)
- Participation in marketing and BD activities including: cold calling and/or maintaining regular contact with clients (current and potential), writing articles or white papers, participating in conferences + trade shows including ideating, developing, and participating in presentations.
- Experience in the boutique and upscale senior living and hospitality sectors
- Proven track record in creating and maintaining a client network and in leveraging that network into design opportunities.
- Experience in public speaking and publications and membership in key sector organizations is a plus.
- Ability and willingness to travel as necessary in support of firm and sector goals.
- At least 15 years experience, with a minimum of 5 years experience in a senior level management/business development position within the Senior Living sector.
